Report Summaries

  • On August 4, a ranger discovered 33 plastic planting containers that appeared to have been used for the cultivation of marijuana in Long Ridge Open Space Preserve. The site was documented and follow-up to clean up the planters will be necessary.

  • On August 5, a vehicle and motorcycle accident occurred on Highway 35 at Portola Heights Road. A ranger was flagged down by the motorist, confirmed there were no injuries and requested California Highway Patrol (CHP) to respond. CHP arrived, took over the scene, and released the ranger from the scene.

  • On August 8, a bicycle accident occurred in Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. Rangers and the San Mateo County Fire Department responded, assessed, and treated the patient. The patient was then transported by ground to the hospital.

  • On August 12, a visitor experienced heat illness in Long Ridge Open Space Preserve. The patient was transported to Skyline Boulevard by CalFire where the San Mateo County Fire Department evaluated their condition and released them . The visitor transported themselves home.

  • On August 13, a ranger responded to a call about a person inside a vehicle experiencing signs of heat illness. Cal Fire arrived on scene and began evaluating the patient while San Mateo County paramedics treated them. The patient signed a release form and drove themselves home.

  • On August 12, a ranger responded to a visitor who experienced heat illness on the Chamise Trail in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. The patient was evaluated by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and signed a release form. The ranger transported the patient back to their vehicle.

  • On August 12, a ranger responded to a vehicle accident that occurred on Bear Creek Road. A large box truck and trailer overturned and caught fire at a hairpin turn east of Chase Road. The fire was contained to the vehicle and did not spread to vegetation on Mid pen land. Rangers interviewed the victim and provided traffic control. The fire was extinguished by CalFire and the vehicle was removed by California Highway Patrol.

  • On August 13, a ranger responded to a visitor experiencing a heat related illness in Long Ridge Open Space Preserve. Cal Fire was first on scene and treated the patient and released them.

  • On August 17, a ranger responded to a hiker who succumbed to heat exhaustion while hiking on the Alma Trail in Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. The Santa Clara County Fire Department and ranger treated the patient. The patient transported themselves to the hospital for further evaluation.

  • On August 18, a ranger responded to an auto burglary and vandalism incident that occurred in parking lot 6 of Rancho San Antonio County Park. The burglar took a wallet containing a driver's license and several credit cards. Rangers took an informational report, and the victim said they will file a report with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

  • On August 18, a ranger responded to an auto burglary that was reported in Rancho San Antonio County Park. An unknown person entered a locked vehicle, removed credit and debit cards, and attempted to use the cards for purchases. The victim was instructed to contact the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office to file a report.

  • On August 20, a vehicle accident occurred in El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve parking lot. A ranger responded and assisted the visitor, and the vehicle was removed by a tow truck requested by the visitor.

  • On August 21, a hiker felt short of breath on the Purisima Creek Trail in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. The patient was transported off the trail by the San Mateo County Fire Department and refused further treatment.

  • On August 24, a member of the public notified Mid pen staff of an illegal dump site in Tunitas Creek Open Space Preserve.

  • On August 25, a ranger responded to the reported location, documented the dump site, and the dumped material will be scheduled for removal.

  • On August 26, a vehicle accident occurred on Highway 84 approximately one mile west of Old La Honda Road in San Mateo County. Rangers started the emergency response by providing initial care to the patients and traffic control. San Mateo County Fire Department responded and the patients refused medical transport.

  • On August 26, a ranger responded to a visitor suffering from heat related illness in Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve. Kings Mountain Fire Department was first on scene and transported the patient off the trail. The patient was transported to a hospital.

  • On August 26, a ranger responded to a downed tree and downed power lines in the North Ridge parking lot of Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve. There were no injuries and minimal damage to Midpen property. CalTrans cleared the tree from Highway 35 and returned on August 28 to clear the tree from the parking lot. PG&E and tree crews are working on clearing the tree from the parking lot and replacing the power pole.

  • On August 26, a ranger attempted to stop a visitor for a dog off leash violation in El Sereno Open Space Preserve, but the subject fled. This visitor is a known offender to ranger staff and neighbors. Resisting a peace officer and dog off leash charges have been referred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

  • On August 28, a bicycle accident occurred on the Spring Ridge Trail in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. The patient was located by the San Mateo County Fire Department and transported to a hospital.

  • On August 29, an at-risk juvenile was reported to be missing within Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. The juvenile was located by a ranger and reunited with their guardians.

  • On August 29, rangers, the Santa Clara County Fire Department, and CalFire responded to a wildland fire that occurred in Rancho San Antonio County Park. The fire started when dry grass ignited during tractor mowing. The fire was contained to approximately 100 feet by 1 00 feet or 0.8 of an acre, and was extinguished and mopped up by 1:30 p.m.
