Report Summaries

  • On December 4, a ranger responded to a report of an auto burglary that occurred on December 1 in Rancho San Antonio County Park Lot 1. A purse was stolen and fraudulent charges were made on the victim's credit cards. The victim was advised to make a report with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department.

  • On December 5, a ranger responded to a bicycle accident on the Kennedy Trail in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. Rangers, Santa Clara County Fire Department, and Cal Fire Helitack 603 responded. Cal Fire Helitack 603 flew the patient to an awaiting ambulance at the Alma Cal Fire Station. The patient was transported by ground to a local hospital.

  • On December 6, a Supervising Ranger presented the "Hats of a Ranger" program to a group of Cub Scouts in San Carlos.

  • On December 7, a ranger responded to a call about two loose dogs reported to be in St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve. The ranger and a Santa Clara County Park Ranger located and secured the dogs. No owner was located at the preserve and the dogs were transferred to Santa Clara County Animal Control for identification and safekeeping.

  • On December 8, two vehicle break ins occurred in Rancho San Antonio Count Park Lot 1. One victim reported missing a purse with one credit card, a debit card, driver's license, social security card, and approximately $2,000 cash. The other victim reported missing a black backpack filled with food. Both vehicles' right front windows were vandalized. Each victim filed a report with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

  • On December 9, a ranger observed an adult male pushing a shopping cart walking in the middle of the northbound lane of Highway 35 in the area of Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. The individual did not show regard for his own safety or traffic hazards and entered Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve where the ranger did a welfare check and requested a San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Deputy for a mental health evaluation. The subject was cleared by deputies and left the preserve. The same subject was also contacted in September at Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve and was taken in for an involuntary hold at that time.

  • On December 8 and 9, a ranger interpreted Mt. Umunhum for two hours each day to groups of 19 and five visitors respectively.

  • On December 10, a ranger interpreted "Resilient Redwoods" for over an hour to 30 visitors in Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve.

  • On December 10, a ranger assisted the San Mateo County Fire Department with a medical aid in Wunderlich County Park. The ranger and the Kings Mountain Fire Department transported the patient suffering from an illness out of the park, and the patient was transferred to a hospital by ground ambulance.

  • On December 12, graffiti was found on the interior and exterior of the restroom at Windy Hill Open Space Preserve and a request was forwarded to maintenance staff for removal.

  • On December 15, two vehicles were damaged in successful and unsuccessful burglaries in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. After returning from their independent hikes, two vehicle owners found their door locks were tampered with and one discovered a credit card was missing and already used fraudulently. Both victims were interviewed and were asked to notify the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

  • On December 16, a ranger interpreted "Mountain Lions of Midpen" for 1.6 hours to 50 visitors at St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve.

  • On December 16, a ranger came across a motorcyclist heading eastbound 0.1 miles east of Skyline Boulevard who had crashed into the guard rail, sustaining minor injuries. The ranger initiated a response from the San Mateo County Fire Department and evaluated the rider. The motorcyclist was evaluated by Fire personnel and released against medical advice.

  • On December 16, rangers responded to a "Destruction of Habitat" violation that occurred in Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. One suspect was cited by the ranger and was subsequently arrested by East Palo Alto Police on unrelated charges.

  • On December 16, a ranger responded to a running accident that occurred on the Novitiate Trail in St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve. The patient suffered an injury to their left knee requiring transport out of the preserve by the ranger. The patient was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital.

  • On December 19, a repeatedly loose dog was located and contained by a ranger in Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. No contact could be made with the owner and San Mateo County Animal Control responded to retrieve the dog.

  • On December 20, a ranger discovered evidence of a previous discharging of a weapon in a closed area of Long Ridge Open Space Preserve. Ninety-one expended shotgun shells and a street sign that was shot multiple times were found in two locations inside gate LRl 7. The ranger documented and removed the shells and sign from the preserve.

  • On December 21, a ranger responded to a call of discarded vehicle parts in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. The ranger found a completely stripped and cut in half body of a Subaru with all Vehicle Identification Numbers and serial numbers filed off, dumped over the side of Page Mill Road into the preserve. The ranger contacted California Highway Patrol to recover the parts.

  • On December 22, a ranger responded to a person who was not feeling well in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. The patient was evaluated by the San Jose Fire Department and transported to the hospital by ambulance.

  • On December 23, a ranger responded to a report of a treehouse found approximately 400 feet off Hammond-Snyder Trail in Rancho San Antonio County Park. Midpen's Natural Resources staff was contacted, and the removal of the structure will be a joint effort to ensure care is taken to save the tree.

  • On December 23, rangers responded to a call to search for overdue hikers in Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve. Rangers found all parties with no injuries.

  • On December 24, on Highway 35 in the area of Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, a loose dog was found unattended in the south bound lane. A ranger blocked the road, secured the animal, and returned it safely to its owner who was looking for it nearby.

  • On December 24, graffiti was located near the Tafoni Trail in El Corte De Madera Creek Open Space Preserve. The graffiti was on three rocks and a tree located beyond split rail fencing within a closed area near the Tafoni rock formation. Staff will remove the graffiti while protecting the rocks and tree.

  • On December 28, a ranger was first on scene to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 35 and provided traffic control. One patient was assessed for an arm contusion and was released on scene by the Santa Clara County Fire Department against medical advice.

The accident made headlines as it is believed to be the first Tesla Cybertruck involved accident.

  • On December 31, a ranger responded to a bicycle accident on Hicks Road. The patient was treated by San Jose Fire Department paramedics and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
