Report Summaries
On June 1, a ranger assisted California Highway Patrol (CHP) with euthanizing a deer that was struck by a vehicle on Highway 84 in San Mateo County. The ranger provided traffic control and monitored the deer. A CHP officer used his firearm to euthanize the deer.
On June 2, a visitor slipped, fell, and suffered and ankle injury on Harkins Ridge Trail in Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve. The San Mateo County Fire Department treated and transported the visitor to the hospital by ground ambulance. A rang3er met with Fire personnel and took information for the report.
On June 3, a bicycle accident occurred on Page Mill Road. The Santa Clara County Fire Department requested a mutual aid response from Midpen rangers, and a ranger and a supervising ranger responded to the scene. The ranger assisted with traffic control and the patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
On June 3, staff radioed for a ranger to respond to a bicycle accident that occurred in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. A ranger contacted the San Mateo County Fire Department and responded to the scene. The ranger provided the initial assessment and care for the patient who was complaining of back pain and difficulty breathing. The ranger administered oxygen and took an assessment of the events leading to the medical aide until relieved by Fire personnel. The patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
On June 4, a ranger responded to an accident involving three vehicles that occurred on Highway 17 south of Bear Creek Road. One occupant complained of shortness of breath due to the impact. Patient care was turned over to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
On June 4, a ranger responded to a hiker who rolled his ankle on the Mount Umunhum Trail in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. Rangers responded with a wheel litter and transported the patient back to his vehicle. The patient denied medical care and self-transported himself to the hospital.
On June 8, a ranger found the site of an extinguished fire on Loma Prieta Road in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. The ranger investigated and photographed the scene to document the occurrence with a report. It was a fire of suspicious origin, possibly started by a parked vehicle or an incendiary device from a vehicle.
On June 8, a ranger responded to a report of a deceased dog that was abandoned at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. The ranger found the remains alongside the preserve parking lot. Animal services was contacted and the remains were removed.
On June 14, a ranger found a BB gun on Midpen lands in Tunitas Creek Open Space Preserve off Tunitas Creek Road. Targets and other items were also found nearby. The ranger removed the BB gun and other items and logged it into the property storage locker.
On June 18, a hiker slipped and fell lacerating their knee on the Methuselah Trail in El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve. A ranger responded and met with San Mateo County Fire Department paramedics along Skyline Boulevard. Kings Mountain Fire Brigade treated the patient and drove them to gate CM02, where they were released after refusing further treatment.
On June 19th, a ranger responded to a hiker who injured their ankle and required medical attention on Seven Springs Trail in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. The patient was located and treated by Santa Clara County Fire Department, and was transported to the hospital.
On June 19th, a ranger responded to a hiker who fell and hit their head on the Coyote Trail in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. Santa Clara County Fire Department and paramedics responded, treated, and cleared the patient. The patient was taken home by a family member.
On June 21, rangers assisted San Mateo County Fire Department in utilizing the El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve landing zone to transport a patient via Life Flight for a vehicle accident on Highway 35. Two rangers cleared and secured the landing zone for Life Flight to land and transport the patient to the hospital.
On June 22, a ranger was first on scene to a vehicle accident on Page Mill Road near Los Trancos Open Space Preserve. The vehicle contained two juveniles, the parents were contacted to pick them up, and the vehicle was towed. A split rail fence was damaged and costs to repair the fence will be sought from the driver’s parents.
On June 23, a hasty search was conducted to find overdue hikers in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. Two adults and two children were lost hiking from Black Mountain to the parking lot. A ranger found them all safe and reunited them with their group.
On June 27, a ranger responded to a hiker who slipped and fell, hitting their head, on the Coyote Trail in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. The patient was located and treated by the ranger until Santa Clara County Fire Department arrived and took over care. The patient was able to self-transport home.
