Report Summaries

  • On March 3, rangers assisted with a road closure due to a tree that fell into powerlines on Highway 35, four miles south of Alpine Road. Rangers managed closures on both ends of the incident until Pacific Gas & Electric arrived on scene and took over.

  • On March 3, an unlawful construction violation was discovered in Teague Hill Open Space Preserve. Rangers found a slackline strapped to two trees approximately 150 feet apart, with a maximum height of approximately 60 feet above a creek below. The slackline and associated equipment were removed and later returned to their owner, who received a written warning.

  • On March 5, a neighbor reported an after-hours and fireworks violation in Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. They reported hearing loud fireworks at 1:00 a.m. The neighbor went to the vista point and observed a vehicle outside the gate and people inside the preserve. Although the neighbor notified California Highway Patrol and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, neither responded by the time the neighbor went home. The suspected violators left the area at 2:30 a.m. Rangers were informed the next morning and conducted an investigation. Firework debris was found and removed, and CalFire Law Enforcement was notified. The neighbor was advised to call Mountain View Police Non-Emergency Line for ranger response to such observed violations.

  • On March 8, a ranger responded to a medical call on the Permanente Creek Trail at Rancho San Antonio County Park. The patient complained of dizziness. Santa Clara County Fire Department responded and the patient was released against medical advice to her husband.

  • On March 8, a ranger discovered unauthorized equipment in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve, similar to previously discovered cryptocurrency mining devices. The ranger documented and collected the device, storing it at the Skyline Field Office.

  • On March 9, a ranger was the first responder to a solo motorcycle accident on Highway 35 near Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. The ranger requested fire and ambulance response. The patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

  • On March 10, a ranger responded to a medical aid on the Jones Trail that occurred in St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve. A patient suffered a seizure and fell, and was assessed by Santa Clara County Fire Department paramedics. The patient was released against medical advice and they left the preserve.

  • On March 14, a visitor requested medical aid after becoming ill in El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve. A ranger responded, provided care, and transferred care to San Mateo County Fire Department on their arrival. The visitor was transported out of the preserve, evaluated, and released by Fire personnel against medical advice.

  • On March 15, a ranger responded to a vehicle accident that caused property damage in Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. The vehicle collided with a tree on the shoulder of the stable's driveway, resulting in damage to both the vehicle and the tree. A private tow truck removed the vehicle, and the driver was interviewed over the phone later in the day. The driver reported no injuries.

  • On March 18, two rangers assisted Santa Clara County Parks with pile burning as part of a fuel management project at Sanborn County Park. The rangers ignited and tended several large piles of wood for about five hours, gaining valuable live fire experience.

  • On March 23, rangers responded to a non-injury solo vehicle accident and conducted traffic control on Hicks Road adjacent to Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. California Highway Patrol responded, took a report, and coordinated a tow for the disabled vehicle.

  • On March 24, a ranger responded to a bicycle accident on Mt. Umunhum Road in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. Rangers arrived after the incident had concluded, but are following up with the San Jose Fire Department and Santa Clara County paramedics for details of the accident.
