Report Summaries
On May 3, a ranger responded to a solo injury bicycle incident that occurred on the Canyon Trail in Montebello Open Space Preserve. Rangers transported the patient with Santa Clara County Fire Department from the preserve in a Midpen patrol vehicle. The patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
On May 3, a Midpen employee reported a man feeding wildlife near the intersection of Page Mill Road and Skyline Boulevard within Coal Creek Open Space Preserve. A ranger documented the vehicle information, collected the food, and ran the vehicle and registered owner's information to alert other rangers to be on the lookout. Animal feeding is an ongoing problem along Skyline Boulevard from Windy Hill to Russian Ridge Open Space Preserves.
On May 5, a non-injury vehicle accident occurred on Highway 84. A ranger secured the scene, checked for medical needs, and provided traffic control until relieved by CHP.
In the early morning of May 5, a non-injury vehicle accident occurred at La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve. A vehicle crashed through the fence from Highway 84 near the Red Barn. The driver then drove past the ranger residence attempting to find a way out of the preserve. The ranger was awakened by an alert from cameras at the residence, responded, contacted the driver, and requested law enforcement. CHP had the vehicle towed from the scene.
On May 9, a ranger responded to an auto burglary that occurred in Parking Lot 5at Rancho San Antonio County Park. The victim's vehicle was undamaged, their personal safe was drilled, and cash and credit cards were stolen. The victim filed a report with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
On May 13, a ranger responded to a vehicle that left the roadway and landed on its roof in Guadalupe Creek inside Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve gate SA02. The incident occurred sometime the previous night. California Highway Patrol responded to the incident and requested a tow to remove the vehicle later that day.
On May 16, a hiker felt nauseous, passed out, and injured their right ankle on the Ipiwa Trail in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. A ranger assisted the San Mateo County Fire Department units to locate the patient in the preserve. The person was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance.
On May 17, a ranger responded to a visitor who felt unwell while hiking on the Stephen E. Abbors Trail in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. The patient was evaluated, released by fire personnel, and given a courtesy transport to their vehicle.
On May 19, rangers attended the City of Mountain View Fire Department’s 150th Anniversary Parade and Public Safety Recruitment Fair. The “Volkswagen Thing” was driven in the antique public safety vehicle parade and a recruitment table was staffed. The “Volkswagen Thing” won the award for “Best Specialty Vehicle!” The event was heavily attended.
On May 20, a minor commercial vehicle accident occurred at Monte Bello Open Space Preserve gate MB01. The accident resulted in damage to mailboxes off Midpen lands and the electric gate, which is on land managed by Midpen.
On May 22, a ranger responded to a solo bicycle accident on the Coyote Ridge Trail in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. Santa Clara County Fire Department also responded. One victim was located and assessed by a ranger while additional rangers transported fire personnel to the scene. Fire personnel took over patient care and transported the patient by ground to the hospital for further care.
On May 23, a ranger responded to a report of vandalism to a vehicle that occurred at Rancho San Antonio County Park. A vehicle was broken into in Parking Lot 6 but nothing was taken sometime between 10:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office was contacted to report the break-in.
On May 24, a ranger responded to a hiking accident on the Stephen E. Abbors Trail in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. The victim suffered multiple abrasions from a fall while hiking. Santa Clara County Fire Department and Paramedics responded and transported the patient to the hospital by ground ambulance.
On May 24, a ranger responded to a report of a damaged/broken gate at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. The ranger inspected and documented the damage, resecured the gate, and then notified maintenance for repair.
On May 24, a visitor experienced a medical emergency possibly associated with a previous condition in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. A ranger responded, provided medical care, and transported the visitor to the San Mateo County Fire Department personnel. The fire department released the visitor for self-transport after signing an Against Medical Advice form.
On May 27, a diabetic emergency occurred on the Harkins Ridge Trail in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. A ranger provided the patient with glucose. The patient was assessed by the San Mateo County Fire Department and refused further care.
